Cleaners at London’s Waterloo station struck for 24 hours from 3pm on Monday of this week. The RMT union members are employed by private firm Interserve.
The union is in dispute over “victimisation and dismissal of RMT members”, “bullying and harassment of staff”, underpayment of wages and “ignorance of basic employment rights”.
A further 24-hour strike was set to begin at 3pm on Friday of this week.
Outsourced cleaners in the Unison union at Birkbeck University in central London have won a huge improvement in their terms and conditions.
They have voted to accept an offer which will give them 25-27 days holiday, and 2-26 weeks sick pay.
It means their holiday entitlement will be in line with directly-employed workers. And for the first time they will get sick pay where previously they had statutory sick pay only.
