Strike vote over rosters at Ayrshire College

Issue No. 2430

Lecturers at the north Ayrshire campus of the recently merged Ayrshire College struck on Tuesday of this week following an 86 percent vote for action.

The dispute centres on new timetabling policy.

The workers’ EIS union says bosses have imposed it without consultation and threatened staff with disciplinary action if they do not comply.

A further one-day strike is set for Thursday of next week.

Strikes will escalate to two-day strikes in the first two weeks of December, and three days a week from January if no agreement is reached.

Strikers reported strong support on the picket lines for their action.

EIS general secretary Larry Flanagan said the imposition of new working arrangements was “simply not acceptable”.

“Our members are determined to take the necessary steps to protect their contractual rights,” he added.
