Luton EDL demo blocked

Issue No. 2431

Some 200 anti-racists turned out to oppose a march by the English Defence League (EDL) last Saturday.

Around 200 EDL racists had hoped to march to the Bury Park area of the town.

But a joint Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and We are Luton counter protest blocked them.

UAF joint secretary Weyman Bennett said, “The EDL has been isolated politically. But it’s still always important to organise against it.”

Over 200 campaigners have signed an open letter calling on the Oxford Union to cancel its invitation to Tommy Robinson to speak.

If the event goes ahead Oxford UAF are planning to protest against the former EDL leader on Wednesday of this week.
