Mexico protest for missing students

Issue No. 2431

Mexico’s annual national Revolution Day parade was cancelled last week and replaced by mass protests demanding the return of 43 missing college students. President Enrique Pena Nieto made a highly defensive speech, as protesters across Mexico burned effigies and photos of him.

Hundreds of thousands of people marched, many carrying black mourning versions of the Mexican flag.

Police with links to drug gangs abducted the students almost two months ago in the southern city of Iguala.

A local senior police official was the latest suspect to be arrested last week.
