College lecturers across Britain are balloting for strikes over pay—but some in their UCU union are organising to get the ballot scrapped.
UCU members backed plans to ballot for strikes over pay at their annual conference this year.
Yet those who want to overturn that decision have called a special Further Education sector conference in Manchester on 13 December. UCU branches have been given just over a week to organise a meeting and send a delegate to the conference.
UCU Left activists have condemned the manoeuvring as an attack on union democracy.
Lecturers should fight to win the biggest possible turnout in the ballot and a strong vote for strikes. The ballot ends on 19 December.
