Kingsley Burrell had head covered before death

A man who died in police custody had his head covered with a sheet or blanket, a pre-inquest hearing was told.

Kingsley Burrell died in 2011. An inquest into his death is due next year. 

It will look at how the sheet or blanket affected his breathing.


Scandal-hit Serco will stay at Yarl's Wood

The government has renewed an eight-year contract for security firm Serco to run the government’s immigration detention centre for women at Yarl’s Wood, Bedfordshire.

Two guards were sacked for having sexual relations with detainees.


Number of prosecutions for begging soars

Prosecutions for begging rose by 70 percent over the past year, Crown Prosecution Service figures show.

Prosecutions rose by 400 percent in Merseyside.

Some 2,771 cases were brought before magistrates in 2013-14 compared to 1,626 the previous year.
