Ayrshire college EIS-Fela union branch secretary Ian Cochrane was reinstated on the day a college-wide strike ballot in his defence was due to end.
College bosses suspended Ian following alleged “student complaints” while union members at the college’s Kilwinning campus struck over the imposition of new working patterns.
Workers have struck four days in the last three weeks. Two more strike days were set for Wednesday and Thursday of this week—they plan three-day strikes each week after the holidays.
EIS-Fela president John Kelly told Socialist Worker, “The action has been solid and the pickets have been operating a rota system ensuring a steady presence on strike days.”
The college-wide ballot came after workers’ mass meetings passed a unanimous motion of no confidence in college principal Heather Dunk.
Meanwhile, at Forth Valley College, bosses have suspended another EIS-Fela union rep.
Angry meetings at the Stirling, Alloa and Falkirk campuses called for a strike ballot—around 60 percent of union members attended the emergency meetings.
