Peanuts for pensioners

A promise to raise the state pension by £2.85 a week has turned out to be a rise of just 87p, and 60p for couples.

Tory chancellor George Osborne’s Autumn statement  froze pension credit, which tops up low incomes.

Tories’ inaction over pollution

The government is failing to address air pollution, an MPs committee has warned.

They said emissions need to be brought down in cities.

Air pollution causes 29,000 deaths a year in Britain.

BP fail to dodge oil spill payouts

The US Supreme Court turned down a challenge by oil giant BP to a settlement reached after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. 

Millions of gallons of oil were pumped into the sea. 

BP agreed to compensate firms and individuals, but it claims the agreement is being “misinterpreted”.
