The Ukrainian government is calling for Western military support as fighting with pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine intensifies.
A fragile ceasefire brokered between Ukraine and the Russian-backed separatists last September fell apart in January.
Russia is reeling under the pressure of US and European Union (EU) sanctions, and low oil prices.
But it is still determined to keep Ukraine out of the West’s influence.
More arms will only fuel the fire, as the conflict is driven by rivalry between the US and the EU on one hand, and Russia on the other.
