Motorway maintenance workers strike

Motorway maintenance workers employed by privateer Amey struck for 24 hours on Friday of last week and Monday of this week.

The workers’ Unite union regional officer Richard Gates told Socialist Worker, “Amey came in with a sledgehammer when they took over the contract last year. This about pay and bargaining.”

Amey offered a 1.75 percent pay deal but bosses’ pay went up 65 percent in four years. Unite is demanding a 5 percent  rise.

They are set to walk out again on Friday of this week and Monday of next.
