20,000 protest against cuts to hospital in Downpatrick

Issue No. 2441

Some 20,000 people attended a rally in Downpatrick in Northern Ireland last Saturday to protest against the reduction of services at the Downe Hospital.

Traffic came to a standstill as farmers in more than 100 tractors led the “Love The Downe” rally.

The multi-million pound new-build hospital only opened in 2010. But it has already had a number of acute services scaled back.
