THREE PEOPLE have been charged with assault on a police officer, after police boarded the bus they were travelling on to an anti-war protest.

Rene Bravo, Marcela Massingnotti and Karl Debbaut were among 50 students and six adults travelling from Lewisham to join protesters in Parliament Square on the day war broke out. They have all pleaded not guilty to assault on a police officer.

AROUND 80 people attended a Question Time event on Friday of last week organised by York Against the War. The panel included Hugh Bayley, York's Labour MP who voted for war, Lindsey German and Professor El Gonati from York's Muslim community. Hugh Bayley was given a hard time by the anti-war panellists and the audience.

AROUND 50 people attended a lively protest outside the town hall surgery of Hove MP Ivor Caplin last Saturday. It was organised by Hove Action for Peace.

Caplin was a government whip prior to the war who parroted Blair's lies over weapons of mass destruction. He was promoted to the post of defence minister in the recent reshuffle.

Three activists presented a petition of 300 signatures demanding that he call for troops to be withdrawn.
