TEACHERS AT Oakdale Comprehensive School in Gwent held a one-day strike last week in protest at two teachers being sacked.

They also held a lively picket of the Caerphilly Borough Council Offices in Ystrad Mynach, currently controlled by Plaid Cymru. The NUT teachers' union reports that lack of funding means 200 teachers may be sacked across Wales.

MEETING of 20 parents and teachers took place in the last week of term in the Coln Valley area of Huddersfield to build a campaign against SATs.

Local parents whose children have recently taken their SATs tests organised the meeting.
