A rally against expansion at Heathrow airport took place in central London on Tuesday of this week.
The Hacan campaign hopes to send a clear message to politicians ahead of the general election.
A new runway at Heathrow would mean an extra 250,000 flights a year—increasing noise levels and making Heathrow Britain’s biggest emitter of greenhouse emissions.
Hacan organiser John Stewart told Socialist Worker, “The aviation industry has managed to change the debate from whether London needs a new runway to which airport.
“But if the cost of the tax breaks given to aviation was spent on making rail fares lower many people could switch to travelling by train.”
Protesters from all over Britain were set to march in London on Saturday of this week to demand action over climate change.
The demonstration was called by Campaign against Climate Change.
