by Dave Sewell
Issue No. 2449

The last households on the Sweets Way estate in Barnet, north London, were expecting the High Court bailiffs to evict them as Socialist Worker went to press.

Landlords Annington Properties gave notice on Friday of last week. Campaigners and residents are asking for supporters to contact Annington on 020 7960 7500 to stop the evictions.

They are asking for people to join them in the empty house they are occupying and prepare to protest when the evictions take place.

They handed over a petition with over 11,000 signatures against the firm.

Around 200 squatters and activists also marched in central Bristol against homelessness.

Housing activists in Cambridge were set to protest outside the Cambridge Property Exhibition on Thursday of this week.

Developers and bankers are set to lay out their wares to prospective buyers, investors and landlords. Protesters are calling for rent controls and council house building.
