BILLIONS OF people around the world want peace. Opinion polls show the majority of people in every country apart from the US are against war on Iraq. Yet George Bush is out for blood. Bush has already rubbished the dossier on weapons that Iraq produced. He's ready to order the thousands of US troops in the Gulf state of Qatar to kill and maim ordinary people in Iraq.
US missiles have rained down on Iraq since the last Gulf War in 1991. Tony Blair backs Bush every step of the way. But he is not winning the propaganda war at home. The number of people in Britain against war has increased over the last month. Some 44 percent of people are now against war on Iraq, up three points from November. Blair is rattled by this solid opposition to war.
'Ministers are aware that the military's desire to send troops does not sit well with the state of British domestic politics,' the Guardian reported on Tuesday of this week.
Let's make sure it's not a happy new year for Blair and Bush, and that anti-war protesters pour onto the streets on Saturday 15 February.
