No to racist English Defence League in Walthamstow

Issue No. 2451

The racist English Defence League (EDL) has said it will come to Walthamstow, north east London, next Saturday.

Activists in Unite Against Fascism and We Are Waltham Forest have called a counter-demonstration.

Ulrike Schmidt is a local anti-racist campaigner. She told Socialist Worker, “We have been leafleting on a big scale.

“People have been saying ‘Oh no, not again,’ when you tell them about the EDL’s march. They really do not want them here. They are really glad we are organising against it.”

Stop the EDL—Saturday 9 May, 12 noon. Meet at the green space opposite Walthamstow Bus Station and Walthamstow Central by Walthamstow Town Square

Over 150 people attended a Yes to Diversity event in Dumfries last Saturday.

It was run by Dumfries trades council and sponsored by various unions.
