This exhibition gives a glimpse of London during a period of its most rapid expansion in the 19th century.

From 1839 when photography first took off, photographers couldn’t get their plates delivered quickly enough to capture old buildings being torn down and new ones going up.

We see a picture of immense wealth alongside poverty that will resonate in the unequal London of today.

London Metropolitan Archives, London EC1R 0HB.
Until 8 October. Free entry.
