Taxi drivers

TAXI DRIVERS in the TGWU union in Watford looked set for victory this week.

Hemel magistrates court agreed with the union argument that the Silverlink train company’s subcontracted minicab firm is operating outside of by-laws by touting for fares.

The Hackney carriage drivers are expecting letters from the local authority telling them they have the right to access Watford Junction taxi rank, which will then be declared as part of the public highway.

This should also mean that Silverlink will not have the right to claim rent on the taxi rank.

Congratulations are due to the TGWU drivers, who have stuck out in all weathers to fight for their rights and for fairness for the public.
