Portugal’s right wing government lost its majority in parliament to parties of the left in a general election last Sunday.
Prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho will remain in office with minority support.
His coalition has implemented painful austerity on behalf of Portugal’s international creditors.
But the opposition Socialist Party led the government that began the “bailout” and remains signed up to it.
Anti-austerity left groups won almost one in five votes.
The Communist Party-led CDU gained one MP, and the Left Bloc more than doubled its seats—overtaking the CDU and becoming the third biggest party.
