Unite sector conferences debate what next after union bill

Reps in the Unite union gathered in Brighton this week to discuss industrial strategy at its sector conferences.

In a keynote speech on Monday, general secretary Len McCluskey slammed the Tories’ Trade Union Bill. He said, “The Tories are not going to put this movement or union out of business.”

In response to a question, he said the union would support workers who broke the law and were victimised.

Officials talked about the need to look for opportunities to coordinate disputes.

Aerospace reps were debating Trident as Socialist Worker went to press.

Activists attended a Unite the Resistance meeting on Monday of this week.
