Police fired some 5,000 rounds of ammunition into a flat in Saint Denis near Paris on Wednesday of last week.
They claimed they had found terrorist “mastermind” Abdelhamid Abaaoud there.
The building is falling apart. So is their story.
Unit commander Jean-Michel Fauverge claimed “heavy fire” from the “true professionals” inside “never stopped”.
But they found only one pistol and no automatic weapons. Confusion then reigned over the identities of three people who died in the raid. For instance, The Daily Mail printed pictures of a woman it claimed was Europe’s “first female suicide bomber”.
It later transpired to be another woman entirely. Cops dragged one man into the street naked to arrest him.
Police bullets almost killed 63 year old Egyptian Ahmed, and wounded his arm. When interviewed afterwards, he was told to leave France or be deported. The other 70 people whose homes were destroyed have been left living in a municipal gym ever since.
Many are from migrant backgrounds.
After seeing their conditions, local councillor Madjid Messaoudene said, “Some would call this contempt, others state racism—I think it’s a stinking mixture of both.”
