IMAGINE IF an unarmed United Nations official was shot by Iraqi troops while he was inside a UN compound in Baghdad. Imagine if the Iraqi army then delayed an ambulance taking the official to hospital and the man died as a result.

And imagine if the Iraqi army lied to cover up what had happened. That would bring a swift declaration of war from Bush and Blair, with bombing and full scale invasion of Iraq in its wake.

But this sequence of events happened in Palestine last week when Israeli soldiers shot UN official Iain Hook in the Jenin refugee camp. There was not a word from Bush or Blair, and no hint of cutting off the huge Western flow of cash and arms which fuels Israel's murderous occupation of Palestine and its war on the Palestinians.
