TRANSPORT AND General Workers Union members working for BAA airports have voted overwhelmingly for strikes. On a turnout of over 70 percent they voted two to one to strike against a pay offer of 1.7 percent plus £150.

A meeting this week decided to call a series of six one-day strikes on 28 November, 2 December, 10 December, 15 December, 23 December and 2 January at all seven BAA airports. These are Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.

Around 3,000 TGWU members and 1,000 Amicus members will be involved. Tim Lyle, the TGWU's national secretary for aviation, said, 'Each airport will strike simultaneously. The airports will not be able to operate on strike days.'
