Inventing the Axis of Evil (New Press, £15.95) is a series of essays by Bruce Cumings, Ervand Abrahamain and Moshe Ma’oz on “the truth about North Korea, Iran and Syria”.

When George Bush is already making it clear that he is not content with attacking Iraq in the name of the war on terror, this new book looks at each of these countries, all of which are in Bush’s sights, and explores the reality behind the propaganda.

Also just out is Chronicles (Simon and Schuster, £16.99), Bob Dylan’s first volume of reflections on his life and times. Read about Greenwich Village in 1961 when he first arrived in Manhattan, and the events which shaped his music and politics.

Christian Parenti will be in Bookmarks on Monday 6 December at 6.30pm to talk about his new book from the frontline of the Iraq war, The Freedom.
