PARENTS AND pupils were on their way to a protest against the privatisation of their east London school under the government’s city academies’ scheme when they discovered the main sponsor was pulling out.

The decision by fashion millionaire Jasper Conran to pull out of his bid to take over McEntee school in Waltham Forest is a major victory for parents and teachers.

It follows the recent collapse of a city academy bid in Doncaster after a similar campaign.
