Fighting pollution plans

OVER 50 people attended a recent anti-incinerator meeting at Colnbrooke Primary School, west London, and over 100 marched on Grundon’s waste disposal site.

Since the opening of Grundon’s first incinerator in 1990 birth defects in the area have risen by 300 percent.

A COACHLOAD of residents from Merthyr Tydfil protested outside the Welsh Assembly last week to urge it to reject planning application by mining group Miller Argent for an open-cast mine near their town.

The Labour-controlled local council has given its support to the proposal, even though it will produce little in terms of employment. The plan will also lead to health problems for residents.
