Socialist Alliance

Issue No. 1807

THE SOCIALIST Alliance is organising a national conference to discuss how to vote in any future referendum on joining the single currency. Two motions have been submitted so far. One argues for a vote against joining the single currency, and has been submitted by Will McMahon, John Rees, Alan Thornett, Weyman Bennett and Rob Hoveman.

The other motion argues for an abstention. The closing date for motions for conference passed by branches or moved by individual members is 31 August.
The conference will be held on Saturday 12 October at South Camden Community School, Charrington Street, London. For more information phone 020 7791 3138.

OVER 90 trade unionists took part in an activists' meeting organised by the Socialist Alliance last Saturday. The meeting was a follow-up to the alliance's successful one-day conference on the trade unions' political funds held in March this year.

There was a positive discussion about the debates on the political fund at this year's union conferences, and how to take the campaign forward.
