Socialist Worker

Issue No. 1806

A LIVELY lobby of Newcastle University council was held on Tuesday 18 June. Jobs are under attack at the university. Placards read 'You sack-we'll strike!', 'Revolt! Resist! No redundancies!' and 'Grants not fees-no redundancies'.

There were banners and delegations from other AUT and Natfhe union branches. Redundancies are threatened at a number of institutions. We need to build action committees to fight compulsory redundancies everywhere.

The AUT should take action now and plan for action in September. Management have not yet told us the number of job losses anticipated. Our estimate is that they are looking for 200 to 300 job losses.
