THE FIRST Europe-wide assembly in the run-up to the 2004 European Social Forum (ESF) took place on Saturday and Sunday of last week.
Some 150 delegates from across Europe met in London to discuss the next ESF, which is set to take place in Britain in October next year.
After a long discussion, consensus was reached that the ESF would be held in London in 2004 provided that sufficient money is found by March. Around £1.6 million will be needed. Some of this will come from ticket sales.
But the bulk of the money will have to come from trade unions and other organisations. Delegates at the meeting stressed the urgency of raising money if the ESF is to go ahead.
