Friction Dynamics

Issue No. 1802

TGWU LEADER Bill Morris will be one of the speakers at a rally in support of the sacked Friction Dynamics strikers. Workers went on strike on 30 April last year and were dismissed eight weeks later.

They had struck legally and after a ballot. Craig Smith, the company's owner, planned a 15 percent cut in wages, a no-strike clause, extending the working day with no overtime premium, and closing the union office.

The strikers have remained defiant throughout the last year sustained by community support and collections. The dispute shows how the union laws still very much favour bosses. It is a disgrace that New Labour allows such treatment.

The TGWU should use all its strength-picketing, solidarity action and political pressure-to crush Craig Smith and win this dispute.

Demonstrate Saturday 8 June, 12 noon, municipal car park behind Safeway, Caernarfon.

Messages of support and donations to Friction Dynamics TGWU, 7a Victoria Chambers. Crown Street, Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 1SY. Cheques payable to TGWU (Dispute Fund).
