THE TGWU union has sacked its Irish regional secretary after a ten-month suspension, despite the opposition of the membership in Ireland. Mick O'Reilly was sacked alongside regional organiser Eugene McGlone.

Jimmy Kelly, who stood for the executive committee election on the issue and topped the poll, said, 'It is a disgrace. A union leader who fought on behalf of his members has been taken out.'

Shop stewards are campaigning for Mick and Eugene's reinstatement. Some 30 shop stewards at one meeting in Waterford demanded the reinstatement of the sacked officials, and that the matter should be referred to the membership of the union in the south and north of Ireland.
