Vote for a fighting union

Issue No. 1936

BALLOT PAPERS for the Unison general secretary election went out this week. National executive member Jon Rogers is standing as the candidate of the Unison United Left. He told Socialist Worker, “The campaign is going well—we’re demonstrating that we have an alternative network inside the union.

“We have to build that network, not just to fight elections, but to ensure that we can deliver solidarity in disputes like that of the Liverpool social workers.

“Pensions have become a key issue in the election.

“We should be fighting over this issue now—in the run-up to the general election. The level of anger from the rank and file might force current general secretary Dave Prentis to make left wing speeches on this issue. But his policy of giving a blank cheque to New Labour makes it harder to fight.”

The Unison United Left website has campaign material. Go to www.unisonunitedleft.org.uk or phone 07958 564 726.
