So Now Who Do We Vote For? (£7.99), the new book from John Harris, confronts the question being asked by millions all over the country who, until now, have been loyal Labour voters.
Harris looks at the war in Iraq. He goes through what’s happened in hospitals and schools, and catalogues many of the issues which have led people to look for an alternative to Labour. He also lists the Labour MPs who have voted against the war, top-up fees and so on to help people decide which way to vote.
His analysis of the alternatives—the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and the Respect Coalition—will not please everyone. However, the fact that he has written the book is an indication of the problems Blair will face in mobilising the working class voters he will have taken for granted in the past.
John Harris’s previous book, The Last Party (£7.99), about Britpop and Blair is also worth a read.
