Our campaign for unity

Issue No. 1937

RESPECT KICKED off a programme of activities in east London last weekend that will run all the way up to polling day. Over 100 supporters gathered to finish off a leaflet distribution in Tower Hamlets. Next weekend will see similar activity across parts of neighbouring Newham, where Respect is challenging for both seats.

Abdul Khaliq, who has been selected as the Respect candidate for Newham’s East Ham constituency, told activists at the meeting:

“It is going to be an awful lot of hard work, but I believe we can win. We are coming out clearly against Tory leader Michael Howard playing the race card. We believe all the communities in east London have enriched each other.

“Health care, equal access to education, pensions affect everyone, no matter what community. We are proud to raise these issues that unify people against attempts to divide us.”
