I HAD been wondering what to do at my workplace, a university in south London, in the run-up to the 19 March anti-war demonstration. I spoke to colleagues and we decided to propose a whole week of events around the theme of “debating war, defending justice”.
I haven’t been there long but a few e-mails to people I have come into contact with has resulted in an amazing number of people coming forward and suggesting events.
Someone will speak about a visit they have made to a university in Palestine, someone else will organise a poets for peace night and the local MP has agreed to come to a debate on the war in Iraq. It has been a fantastic experince to see so many e-mails flying around from people I hardly know, all enthusiastic about the event.
