Thousands of public sector workers, like these in Southend, Essex, rallied in defence of pensions this week as part of the TUC’s day of action.

This week top civil servants’ union the FDA joined those balloting for strike action against the government’s plans to force public sector workers to work five years longer before they can retire. Activists are campaigning for a big yes vote for strikes.
