RESPECT MP George Galloway and councillor Oliur Rahman spoke to around 40 local residents at a meeting on the Collingwood estate in east London’s Bethnal Green & Bow constituency last Saturday.

George Galloway is Respect’s candidate to stand against ultra-Blairite Labour MP Oona King in the constituency.

Collingwood tenants, local workers and students from the nearby Swanley school heard Galloway attack the government for spending millions on the Iraq war.

He also attacked Tower Hamlets Labour council, which is splashing out £1.5 million on new council offices.

The meeting was organised by community activist Ashraf Hussain to encourage more people to join the Respect election campaign in the constituency.

Ashraf said,“I want George Galloway to win this seat and I believe from my previous experience the campaign has to start with the community.

“The votes don’t come from big TV interviews, they come from the street and from the housing estate.”
