20 March: your chance to march against the war lies

Issue No. 1888

BLAIR'S WAR lies have sickened millions. Now we have the chance to take to the streets and show our anger. The Stop the War Coalition is calling on its supporters to mobilise for a national demonstration in London on 20 March, the first anniversary of the war on Iraq.

The call to make 20 March an international day of protest was issued at the World Social Forum in Mumbai, India, last month. Chris Nineham, from the Stop the War Coalition, read out the call at a thousands-strong rally. He told Socialist Worker, 'Stopping Bush and Blair's war is the big issue for activists around the world. Our movement has totally discredited Blair. Now we need a massive demo on 20 March to say 'Stop the lies, Blair out'.'

Tansy from the Stop the War Coalition office says, 'Our meetings on the Hutton inquiry have been huge. York, for example, had around 500 at their meeting. Support for the Stop the War Coalition is growing, not shrinking. There is so much anger out there. People are asking what we are planning to do. Already, we know of demos planned in Canada, the US, Greece, Egypt, India and Pakistan.'
