Released Guantanamo detainee Martin Mubanga has given his backing Saturday’s demonstration against the occupation of Iraq.
Martin, who was held for nearly three years in Guantanamo Bay, spoke out at a press conference on Monday called to publicise the protest.
“My reason for being here is to show support for my brothers in Guantanamo Bay and because it’s in everybody’s interest to stop the war in Iraq,” he said.
“There are governments that are misleading the people and, inshallah, by my being here I’m putting myself with the Stop the War Coalition.”
Martin spoke briefly about his experience in Guantanamo. “The torture methods they, the American government use, are basically to make you go crazy. If they can’t get you to work for them then they try to break you.
“Those such as myself who have acquired this limelight should try to utilise it to help those people who have been forgotten.”
