Defend asylum seekers

Issue No. 1945

A family of Roma asylum seekers from Kosovo has been released from the Yarl’s Wood detention centre after a campaign led by Glasgow school students.

Sadush and Tade Murselaj and their children Agnesa, 15, Gentian, 12, and Leonard, aged nine, who have lived in Scotland for four years, were seized and locked up in Yarl’s Wood for 18 days after the home office rejected their asylum claim.

Hundreds of students at Agnesa and Gentian’s school, Drumchapel High, signed a petition opposing their detention. The school students’ petition was backed by Respect MP George Galloway and 26 members of the Scottish Parliament.
