The mock funeral

Single status

Three refuse collectors in Coventry have been arrested following alleged incidents on picket lines during the recent strikes

The strikes were over the way the national “single status” deal is being used to cut pay. Council bosses have set their sights on the most militant union members.

A mass meeting was planned, following a joint meeting of Unison and T&G union reps.

About 100 people attended a mock funeral to mourn the death of workers’ terms and conditions on the day single status was implemented (see picture).

Meanwhile council workers in Sandwell, West Midlands, began a boycott of their job evaluation scheme this week. The scheme could see many of them lose thousands of pounds.

King’s Lynn

Refuse collectors in West Norfolk are considering going on strike over managers spying on them.

They say King’s Lynn council officers are going undercover to secretly film and photograph them as they go about their daily rounds.
