Docks ballot over pay

Dockers in the T&G union at Associated British Ports (ABP) are balloting for strike action in their long running pay dispute.

Over 300 workers at ABP operations in England and Wales began receiving ballot papers on Monday of this week after rejecting a 2.9 pay offer outstanding from last year.

According to the union, the company’s latest full year results for 2004 showed profits across its British ports were up 4 percent to £142 million with dividends up for shareholders.

The ports balloting are: Ipswich, Lowestoft, Teignmouth, Swansea, Newport, Goole, Grimsby, Hull, Immingham and King’s Lynn.

The ballot result is due on Monday 27 June.
