Explosive mood among postworkers

Postal workers at Bow Locks, the east London mail centre, are enraged at management’s attitude after a recent emergency evacuation.

The centre was temporarily closed after a nearby scrapyard went up in smoke. Exploding gas tanks showered lumps of shrapnel over the mail centre.

Workers were told to leave the scene and subsequently all permanent staff have been given eight hours overtime payment to compensate for the disruption. All the staff that is except the late shift, the ones most directly affected and the ones who were actually working at the time!

In other cases some workers who were told by the police that the mail centre was closed have been told they could have come to work and must take a day’s annual leave to make up for their non-attendance.

There has been a strong feeling among rank and file workers to walk out over this issue.

A key meeting was scheduled for the end of this week, which is perhaps the last chance for management to change their attitude.
