Gill Hubbard is one of the organisers of the G8 Alternatives summit on Sunday and the Wednesday demonstration at the Gleneagles Hotel.
“The support in Scotland for the protests has really been growing, and in the last couple of weeks the press has been brilliant,” she says.
“People are ready to welcome as many protesters who can make it up here. There have already been 1,000 tickets sold for the alternative summit on the Sunday — and that was before a couple of the local papers publicised it.
“The message people will take away from this week will be ‘fight poverty not war’ — people have made that link.
“Talking to them about the protests, there is a real feeling of expectation —people want more than empty promises. And politicians like Gordon Brown who say they support making poverty history will find they’ve made a rod for their own backs if they don’t deliver.
“This week of protest is a real opportunity to push the movement forward. And now it looks like even the weather will be on our side — so I’ll see you there!”
