Bus workers

Issue No. 1906

RMT MEMBERS on the Mitcham Belle bus company in south London struck for union recognition on Monday of this week. They are also set to strike on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Union members voted by 69 to four in favour of strike action after management refused to negotiate with the RMT.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow says, 'This overwhelming vote for strike action underlines our members' legitimate claim to be represented by the union of their choice. Some 90 percent of the workers at this company are members of RMT, and the company must now get down to the business of negotiating with the union its employees have chosen. The sooner this company realises that it can no longer simply dictate terms and conditions to its workforce, the sooner we can begin to build sensible industrial relations.'
