Socialist MSPs are suspended

Issue No. 1"

Four socialist members of the Scottish parliament have been suspended from the chamber for protesting in support of the right to demonstrate outside the G8 summit in Gleneagles.

The parliament’s standards committee took unprecedented measures against the four Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) MSPs, barring them from the parliament and imposing a loss of wages and allowances on them for a month.

“This wasn’t even a show trial — there was no trial,” said Colin Fox, SSP national convenor and MSP for the Lothians. “We were found guilty without being given the opportunity to state our case.”
