Socialist Worker

David Herbert

My brother David, who has died aged 62, left school at 15, became a factory worker and was then a milkman for many years.

As a teenager I remember him with the Daily Worker sticking out of his work coat, showing me that there was at least something to the left of Labour’s Harold Wilson.

David later connected with Socialist Worker. Although never vocal in local branch meetings, he was never hestiant when confronting the mangement or the right wing.

Dave would get up half an hour earlier than his usual 4am start for his milk round in order to read Socialist Worker pamphlets and publications.

Dave’s active involvement waned as the tide of class stuggle receded, but his day to day anger with the power structures in society never went away.
