Issue No. 1964

The South African gold strike reported on in South African workers in key battles for justice (SW, 1963, 13 August 2005) ended on 11 August with the workers receiving an improved pay offer. Although short of what some workers believed the union should accept, the fact that intransigent employers were forced to make concessions shows the potential power of the movement.
