Careers staff

Issue No. 1967

Staff at Scottish Enterprise were considering a new pay deal as Socialist Worker went to press. If it is not acceptable then 1,000 workers were to strike on Thursday this week.

The Unison union members, nearly two thirds of whom voted for strike action, work for Careers Scotland, which has been part of the economic development agency since 2002.

The union believes that a pay scheme, which has operated for ten years, is divisive, favouring senior managers and discriminating against women.

The new offer, recommended by Unison leaders, means a new system will be negotiated with the trade unions.

In the interim a “hybrid” pay deal is to be agreed for 2006 which will comprise both across the board and also some performance related elements.
